Assassin, Beware

As I sat there, waitting for my computer to download “Nickleback” onto my MP3 player, I looked at this profile on a new assassination mission. Supposedly, this is the hardest case there is, a Class Z, but as I looked down the crimes, I saw something that pissed me off, *Child Molester and Sex Offender (1998).* This was the man who raped my nine year old sister.
*Beep. Beep.*
Finally, the downloading was complete. I got up and got dressed, all black yet again, and dashed out the door. This guy was going to be mine, no matter how far I had to run. This mission is cake, all I have to do is listen. *BANG!!* There we go, I dashed to where I heard the gun shot. There he is, I jumped to the rooftops and got my knife out, ‘Nice and easy,’ I thought. I jumped down and grabbed him. Of course, he elbowed me in the stomach. He turned to look at me and gasped.
“No way, you’re dead. I killed you myself,” he gasped.
“Heh, you ever think that the girl you killed had a twin sister? Any last words?” I asked.
“How can you kill me, you’re only seventeen years old. Much too young to kill a master like myself.”
This pissed me off! I ran at and struck him in the throat and twisted until I heard his last dying breath.
Later that night, as I walked into the apartment complex, my neighbor told me there was a package for me at my door. I gave her a bewildered look. I never get packages, nobody knows I exist.
“Okay, thanks,” I said. When I got to my door there was indeed a package and a note. I open the note first. My jaw dropped.
‘Dear Maria,
I know you’re alive, and not dead, like the rumors say. I have seen you since that awful day happened and I’m sorry I didn’t come to your rescue. I was scared. But the truth is I have loved you all this time and I want you to meet me at the Pearls Park at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
Love,
???
P.S. Please wear what’s in the package.’
I had a bad feeling of what was in a box. Honestly I didn’t want to open it cause most likely it was a pink dress. I walked over and opened the box, I was half right. It was a dress that looked like something I could work in, and best of all it was black.
Right then, my clock charmed nine o’clock. I walked over to the cabinet and took out all my pills. It was like a drug store, that's how much drugs I had in my apartment. All for stress, shock, and depression. After I took my pills, I went to bed, hoping for a peaceful nights sleep.
I woke up a couple hours later in a deep sweat. Damn, so much for peaceful. I then looked over at my computer, there was a screen saying that I had an e-mail. I went over to find out it was my boss. Shit, I forgot to call him to tell him the job was finished. I click the message, and read:
‘send word if done, payment already in account. thanks and good luck.’
I then sent a message saying ‘finished and alive.’ Now the next objective, Secret Admirer. I went back to bed, and looked forward to see what lovely nightmares would come to mind.
The next morning, I got up and went into the kitchen. I opened up the fridge and saw nothing. ‘SHIT,’ I thought, I forgot to go to the store and get groceries. After that, I went to take a shower. It was going to take me forever to look nice for the meeting of the guy who loves me. Then I thought about it, what if this guy is one of the many people who wants to kill me. Only one way to find out.
Around 1:30 p.m. I finally finished getting around and looking nice. As I walked out the door, an e-mail from my boss, stating that he had another assignment for me. For the first time in seven years, I responded that I couldn’t take the job. At that, I walked out the door. When I got to Pearls Park it was ten til. I began to wonder the park. I spotted a nice spot near the lake that my parents use to take me and my late twin sister to feed the ducklings. I sat down on the nearest bench and began to cry. I’ve never cried in years, so why am I crying now?
“A rose to someone who is lost and forgotten,” said someone behind me, as he puts his hand on my shoulder.
I grabbed his arm and threw him far into the lake. A lot of people looked over and began to laugh at the guy cause he just got his ass thrown by a girl. When I saw that he was swimming back to shore, I began to walk away, as I thought, ‘I should’ve taken that god damn job.’
“WAIT, MARIA ELANA!!!!” the guy yelled.
I stopped, nobody knows my name. I turned around and asked, “Who are you and how do you know my name?”
He responded calmly, “My name is David Smith. And I know you from grade school, I’m the one who put flowers and chocolate in your desk. You broke my heart everyday, cause you kept throwing them away everyday.”
“Did you ever think that I was allergic to chocolate and flowers?” I asked.
“No way! Girls can’t be allergic to those things. Can they?”
“Okay, I sneezed all the time when someone brought me flowers. When I first tried chocolate, my face swelled up like a balloon. So yeah, girls can be allergic to flowers and chocolate,” I said, feeling like I’m explaining all this to a two year old.
“I’m sorry. Well, I guess giving you roses won’t work on you. Can we at least go to dinner?”
I smiled and said, “Not with you all wet I won’t, but with you all dried off, sure.”
David leaped with glee. Then he stopped because everybody was looking at him again. He asked, “Hey, Maria. Can I clean up at your place?”
“Sure, but I don’t have a washing machine or a dryer. Do you at least…”
“…have spare clothes? Of course, I do,” he said as he finished my sentence.
When we got to my apartment, David’s jaw dropped. My entire apartment had in it was a bed, a computer, bathroom, and a kitchen.
“Man, this place looks like a dump. No offense to you but this is small,” David said as he looked around.
“I know it’s not much, but it’s all I can afford. I’m still paying off the debt my family left behind. I also have to pay rent, water bill, electricity bill, and for my medicine. Well, you better get cleaned up,” I said looking kinda down.
“Yeah. Wait, what medicine?”
“If you’re hungry, don’t check the kitchen. All you’ll find are pills and shots. If you’re lucky, you’ll find a beer in the fridge.”
“I think you should…”
“…stop. Sorry, can’t. If I do, I’ll have a nervous breakdown. The last time that happened, I woke up in the hospital. I walked out without a word. Now if you don’t mind, get cleaned up. I’m getting hungry,” I said getting angry.
At that, he went to the bathroom. When I heard the water going, I went to my computer. I thought I’d check my account before David got back. That last assignment was worth five million dollars. To bad, four of that five has to go to cover the debt. After this, all I need is another three million to go. I heard the water turn off. I got out of my account and e-mailed my boss:
‘Hey boss,
I had something come up today. Won’t be available till tomorrow. Besides, I’m in dire need for another $5 million job. Then I’ll be able to pay off debt and have money for myself. Thanks.
---Maria’
“Wow, a five million dollar job. What are you, an assassin?” he joked.
“Well, yeah,” I answered as I jumped.
David’s jaw dropped and he said, “Man, I was only kidding around. Please, tell me you are joking, too?”
“Does it look like I’m kidding?” I asked.
“Yeah … no.”
“Okay, now that you’re cleaned up, where’d you have planned on taking me to dinner?” I asked, changing the subject.
“He gave me a bewildered look and said, “I don’t know. I didn’t think I’d make it this far.”
“Well, you asked me, so you have to choose. Where do you like to eat?” I said, glad he fell for the changing of the subject deal.
“At my house or the dojo. I never ate out before. Not unless you count free samples at a mall food court.”
“At your house is fine, cause here. There’s nothing. So where do you live? If I remember correctly, you were one of the richest kids in school.”
“Well, not anymore. I was kicked out at the age of 12. Then I started training at the dojo. I also got a job and an apartment,” he answered.
“You know what might be best, if we got an apartment together. It could help both of us, with two incomes, we’ll have more money. What do you say?”
“Sure, especially with your five million dollar income,” he joked.
“Hey, my income changes pending on the assignment. Just to let you know, I had a job earlier that I could have taken. But no, I wanted to meet you,” I said, getting angry again.
David went silent. He then grabbed my hand, and we left. It didn’t take long to get to David’s apartment.
“Heh, you complained that my apartment was a dump. Look at your’s. What’s up with all the show boxes everywhere?”
“Why don’t you open them,” David beckoned.
I opened the closest box. I smiled. They were pictures of me and David playing together when we were little. I laughed at two of the pictures. It was winter vacation, and I had thrown a snowball at David. The snowball hit David square in the nose. The other picture was of David with his tongue stuck to a frozen light pole.
“I remember these. I was laughing in the snow, because you fell for the joke. I tried to get you loose with a lighter, but no, you stayed there for about two hours.”
"Yep and I think the two hours were worth it", he said smiling holding two bottles of strong alcohol, "because the whole time I was thinking about how much fun it would be to get you back for that." He handed her one of the bottles and took a drink from his own. “And my apartment is organized mess at best" he looks around at it, "and right now it's at its best compared to what it was a few months ago."
