“So is everyone ready to go? Miki don’t forget to feed Mia at eight fifteen. Be in bed by ten, no later!” Spica yelled.
“We’re ready to go,” Airi and Ray answered in unison.
“Alright, let’s go,” Spica said walking out the front door.
“Okay is everyone in position?” Spica asked from the roof of the tallest building on Lexington and Rose.
“Sorry, we were too busy kissing, what did you say?” Airi asked jokingly from a bench further down the street.
“Don’t worry, I heard you and yes, we’re in position,” Ray said.
“Remember if anything goes wrong…”
“Yeah, we know, run back to the boss. Are you sure you don’t want us to fight along side you?” Airi asked.
“Yeah, I’m use to working alone. Zack knows that, but hey, we have to follow orders,” Spica said with a sigh.
“Damn straight,” Ray said.
“Hey, I see a small boy around the age of twelve. Was Zack specific on who the contact was?” Airi asked.
“No, but if no one else shows up, he’s the contact. It’s only eight twenty-seven p.m., so keep an eye on the kid and see if anyone else shows up,” Spica ordered.
Three minutes past by very slowly, but when eight thirty came around, Airi said, “Okay no one else showed up and the kid is still here. I guess he is the contact. Good luck, Spic.”
“Thank you, but I won’t need it,” Spica said as she ran and jumped off the rooftop, her wings spreading out as she fell.
~~Chapter 7~~
Islotho is pacing back and forth in his office, glancing at the clock and then at the video. It was almost eight thirty p.m. and still no one showed up. You’d think they’d show up early.
Islotho looked down at the ring on his desk. ‘The next time Artemayy and I are alone, I’ll propose to her,’ Islotho thought. He looked back at the video and see’s a beautiful woman walking up. Islotho’s jaw dropped in amazement. Her long turquoise hair blew in the wind. The way she walked reminded him of Artemayy, but that couldn’t be.
The woman looked around and asked, “Were you followed?”
“Only by my shadow,” Elros answered.
Just then the woman grabbed Elros and covered him as a sword flew by.
“AHHHHH!!” yelled the woman.
A man showed up and said, “Spica, your time has run out. You will die tonight if it’s the last thing I do!”
So the woman’s name is Spica. Islotho zoomed into the man to see in udder shock that it was …
“Rico!” Islotho yelled, yet continued to watch. He looked at Spica and realized that she was dripping blood from her back. He looked closer and sees that Spica has the same dragon wing tattoo that Artemayy has on her shoulder blades.
Rico charges towards them and Spica grabs Elros and teleports to a hotel room. Spica looks out the window and smirks. She turns and asked, “You okay, Elros?”
“I’m fine. How do you know my name?” Elros asked in bewilderment.
“I can read minds. I am a demon after all.”
“Wow. Oh my god, you’re bleeding. Let me help.”
“No, back off. I’m fine.”
Spica picked up the briefcase and goes to the door and then falls to the floor unconscious.
Islotho remembered that room. That’s the room that he stayed in when Artemayy was mad at him. He grabbed some bandages and dashed out the door.
Ring, ring.
~~Chapter 8~~
Thump. Spica landed right in front of the kid and he jumped in surprise.
“Are you the contact?” Spica asked.
“I don’t know,” the kid answered, still trying to recover from the surprise.
“Code Death,” Spica said.
“Okay, here’s your…”
“Were you followed?” Spica asked looking around.
“Only by my shadow,” the kid answered.
“Stop being a smartass,” Spica said as she’s looking around, then she sensed it. Spica turned and grabbed the kid just in time.
“Run!” Spica yelled at Airi and Ray.
A sword was thrown at the kid and Spica managed to grab him but didn’t get away in time when it sliced her back open, straight up the spine.
“AHHHHH!!” yelled Spica.
A man showed up and said, “Spica, your time has run out. You will die tonight if it’s the last thing I do!”
“It’s going to take more than that to kill me,” Spica said as blood dripped from her back onto the ground. The ground started to disintegrate.
“But I will kill you in this life or the next,” the man said as he charges towards Spica and the kid, sword drawn and ready.
Spica grabbed the kid again and whispered something and disappeared.
“Shit!” the man said looking around to see where they went.
Spica looks out the window and smirks. She turned around and asked, “You okay, Elros?”
“I’m fine. Wait, how do you know my name?” Elros asked in bewilderment.
“I can read minds. I am a demon after all.” Spica answered.
“Wow. Oh my god, you’re bleeding. Let me help you.”
“No, back off. I’m fine.”
Spica went to pick up the briefcase and went to the door and darkness overpowered her.
“Oh god, what do I do, what do I do? Stay calm, just stop the bleeding,” Elros said panicking.
Easier said than done, when Elros tried to stop the bleeding, his hands started to burn and, “AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!”
He ran his hand under cold water and grabbed the phone.
He dialed Islotho’s cell phone number.
It rang about three time before, “Hello, talk to me.”
“Sir, I’m kinda in trouble. The contact, her name is Spica and she’s hurt badly. I’d try and help but her blood is acidic and it burns. What do I do?” Elros asked terrified.
“Where are you at?” Islotho asked.
“Some hotel at Lexington and Rose Room 996,” said Elros.
“Be right there,” Islotho said as he hung up the phone.
*Twenty Minutes Later*
“Hey, where is Spica?” Islotho said as he entered the room.
“Over there. I managed to move her by the ankles,” answered Elros moving out of the way.
Islotho went over and just put bandages over it without touching the blood. The bandages seemed to work because the blood didn’t disintegrate the bandages.
Just then Spica woke up and kicked Islotho in the face. She didn’t realize what she did until she turned and saw the boot print on his face.
“Sorry about that. You look familiar. Have we met? What time is it?” Spica says randomly.
“It’s okay, no I believe we haven’t met. And it’s almost midnight. Do you know a woman named Artemayy, by any chance.”
“Sorry got to go,” Spica said and grabbed the briefcase and jumped out of the window.
~~Chapter 9~~
Islotho was getting suspicious of the Spica/Artemayy ordeal in his head, so he decides to go to lunch in the middle of nowhere with his brother. Since none of them really trust one another they both have guns under the table pointed at each other as they started talking peacefully about Artemayy.
“So why do you keep hassling me about my relationship with Artemayy?” Islotho asks while sipping his soda.
“Well I think you’re taking it way too slow and I think that she’s been waiting far too long for you to ask. Plus she hasn’t been around with you much. When I see you walking around, your always with your hands in your pockets.” Rico said looking at Islotho with a smirk on his face.
“She’s always working at the library and since I’m working at the shop that dad gracefully gave me there hasn’t been much time to spend with her except at meal times and at night.” He said returning the smirk back with a little more attitude.
“I see what you mean, but what is the real reason you called me out of the blue to this place in the middle of nowhere?” Rico asked leaning forward hoping to get a good laugh out of what he’s about to say.
“Well, I saw something weird the other night. I was watching the news and I saw that a little boy got hurt delivering some odd shaped briefcase to someone and it seemed like out of nowhere a masked man started to attack the receiver of briefcase. And I believe, if I heard right, her name was Spica…”
Rico squirts scotch all over Islotho and that pissed Islotho off and he yelled, “WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR?!?”
“Sorry I’m still not used to drinking this shit. Please continue.”
“Got hurt on her back and I saw the strangest thing,” he takes another sip of his soda, “it looked like a tattoo that Artemayy had gotten many years ago and it’s located on the same spot. I know I’m not one for snooping…”
Rico burst out laughing remembering when he went snooping around in his room looking for the spot welder and the rest of the tools.
“What’s so funny?” Islotho demanded as his brother fell out of his chair from laughing too god damn hard.
“Sorry I was thinking about all the times when you were “looking diligently” through my room for the tools.” Rico said getting back up from laughing.
“Well I’ll just get right to the point since Artemayy is expecting me to be home when she gets there since I’m supposed to be watching Miki. I think Artemayy might have another life she’s not telling me about and I was wondering if you knew anything about that.”
Rico thinks long and hard but not about the question that was just asked, “Nope.” And with that he got up and left in his 1970 Ford Mustang.
As soon as he left Islotho went on his own way in his 1957 Dodge Charger, still thinking about whether or not Artemayy had a second life or not.
~~Chapter 10~~
Islotho walks in the door and looks around. He sighs in relief when he sees that Artemayy isn’t home yet.
“So how was lunch with Rico?” Miki asked.
“It made me want to kill him even more,” Islotho answered.
“Okay, well I’m going to Jean’s house ...” Miki started.
“Wait, I have a question for you. Does Artemayy have a second life that I don’t know about?” Islotho asked.
“What makes you think that I have a second life?” Artemayy asked, slamming the front door, “Miki, go ahead and go to Jean’s house. Actually go ahead and spend the night.”
“Okay, thanks. Good luck, Islotho,” Miki said while giving a small chuckle.
When Miki leaves the house, Artemayy sits down on the couch and asked, “So, what makes you say that I have a second life?”
Islotho sits down next to Artemayy and says, “Well...” he thought, ‘How should I ask this? It’s not like I can just ask her, are you Spica?’ “It seems like you’re always working and we never see that much of each other.”
“I read that thought, why do you think I’m Spica?” Artemayy asked getting ticked.
“Well, one of my employees got his hands burnt after work and he saw a woman who was hurt with the same tattoo as you,” he said sensing that he was on thin ice.
“You know what that really sickens me. Spica was one of my best friends from middle school and we both decided to get the same tattoo because we were both going in two different directions,” Artemayy said.
Islotho shifted to the end of the couch and said, “I didn’t realize that. So if you both went separate way, then why didn’t she call you when she got into town?”
“We changed the number when we got this house, remember?” Artemayy asked, getting defensive.
‘That’s right, we did change the number,’ he thought and he said, “Don’t you have her number?”
“She didn’t have a phone number because she lived with ME!! I was her only friend.”
“And your parents approved of this, wow what an honor. Oh wait, come to think of it, not even I have met your parents. I would like to meet Spica and ask her,” Islotho said getting cocky.
“Fine, you’ll hopefully meet her tomorrow if my assistant can locate her. Dinner sound okay?”
“Alright, dinner sounds great and all I ask is to be filled in on some of your past friends and if you did anything crazy back then,” he said.
Artemayy snapped. She got up, walked around the couch and patted Islotho on the head. His head lit up in flames. Islotho was startled by the fact that Artemayy would actually light his hair on fire. He put out the fire and lied down on the couch. He fell asleep in minutes, but you could never tell for his eyes were wide open.
~~Chapter 11~~
Artemayy sat in her office wondering whether what she did was right or not. Mia purred at her feet and rubbed her head on Artemayy’s leg. Artemayy picked her up and whispered, “Hey Mia, you want some free time tomorrow?”
Mia jumped off of Artemayy’s lap and changed into a complete double of Artemayy and asked, “What do you have in mind, my lady?”
“Will you stop saying ‘my lady?’ I’m trying to get out of that life,” Artemayy whispered.
“Sorry, I can’t. So what is it that you need me to do, my lady?” Mia asked.
“Islotho is getting suspicious. He thinks that I’m Spica. I want you to help me throw him off course,” Artemayy said in a slightly higher voice.
“You know I’m here to serve you and to protect you, my lady. But as you know, I can only change into a splitting image of you, not Spica,” Mia replied.
“I know and stop saying that. Thank you. Come to the library tomorrow at noon and I’ll give you all the details then,” Artemayy instructed.
“Yes, my lady,” Mia said as she changed back into a cat and left the room.
Artemayy sighed. She got up and locked the door. She went to her computer and began typing to her boss.
~Sir, are you there. -Artemayy~
~Of course I’m here. What happened to you last night? -Zack~
~Ran into some trouble with Islotho. -Artemayy~
~Did he find out? -Zack~
~He’s getting suspicious. I’m planning on throwing him off tomorrow. So please, no jobs unless it is life threatening. -Artemayy~
~Okay, but you know what happens if he finds out. -Zack~
~I know. He’s on “THE LIST.” I feel bad for not telling him. -Artemayy~
~We made the deal when you were fourteen. When you get married, you can tell him, no sooner. -Zack~
~Please, he’s never going to pop the question. I have waited for two years and still no sign of him asking me. -Artemayy~
~Okay, will you marry me instead? lol. Don’t worry, he will. You just have to be patient. I know that may be hard for you to do, but just be patient. -Zack~
~Okay. Oh, what do you want me to do with the briefcase? -Artemayy~
~Keep it. All that’s in there is weapons for you to use on your missions. So if you need them, use them. -Zack~
~I thought that they were for your car? -Artemayy~
~Oh well, I can get more. -Zack~
~Thanks and I’ve got to go. I need to get up early tomorrow. Night, sir. -Artemayy~
~It’s morning already. And good night. -Zack~
~Smartass. -Artemayy~
Artemayy grabbed a blanket and curled up in her computer chair and fell asleep.
~~Chapter 12~~
Islotho woke up at four in the morning. He went to the bedroom to apologize to Artemayy, but she wasn’t in there. He searched the entire house for her and still no sign of her. Then he thought about it and went to her office door. He turned the doorknob and it was locked. He knocked on the door. No answer. ‘Why is this door locked? Is she hiding something?’ Islotho thought. He knocks again.
*Thud*
“Artemayy, are you in there?” he asked.
“What do you think?” Artemayy answered.
“What was that thud?” he asked.
“You scaring me to a point that I fell out of my chair. What do you want?” Artemayy asked in return.
“I wanted to apologize for what I said. Why is the door locked?”
“To keep you and Miki out while I worked on a presentation for work. Now, if you don’t mind, I’d like to get some more sleep,” Artemayy said yawning.
“Sorry but why didn’t you go to bed?”
“Why didn’t you?”
“Good point,” Islotho said and went back to the couch. It took him a matter of minutes til he fell asleep again.
However, Artemayy was now wide awake.
